Disposable society

There are other disturbing statistics on the impact the fashion industry is having on the environment. In Australia alone, more than 500,000 tonnes of textiles and leather end up in landfill each year.

Low-cost, low-quality garments mean we are buying and disposing of more clothing than ever." (ABC News)

The rise of fast fashion in Australia means 6000 kg of clothing is dumped in landfill every 10 minutes.

Being in the fashion industry I get to see first hand the waste and why we are such a disposable society when it comes to fashion.

I have been sourcing all sorts of brands at different price levels and have found that the cheaper the brand the worse the quality is and you may be lucky to get more than a couple of wears from that item of clothing, unfortunately, everyone is just looking for a bargain. Don't get me wrong I love a good sale just as much as the next person but I have changed the way I shop when it comes to clothing. Just because something is cheap it does not mean that it is a good deal, I now don't mind spending good money on good quality clothing that I can wear year in and year out.

I am now trying to source much better quality clothing even though it is at a higher cost it will last many more wears than the cheaper brands and is ethically made. Lately I have been ordering clothing and sending almost 1/2 of it back due to its inferior quality, some dresses wouldn't even fit the smallest of girls in the bust area and others are so badly made that they haven't sewn things properly or like a wrap dress I recently purchased where they had forgotten to stitch a hole in the side for the strap to go through so they had just taken a pair of scissors and cut a hole in the sides of all the dresses, they weren't even straight and it would frey the minute you put the dress on so I sent them all back. Now these dresses would Retail at $69-$79.

I will not sell this to my customers as I only want to sell products that are of good quality not this crap they are trying to pass up as great quality.
